CONCEPT: What if I designed a Carmen Sandiego game collection in the same vein as Digital Eclipse's Gold Master series?
The Gold Master collections are my favorite thing happening in video games currently, but there are a few things I personally might do differently:
- I love the big chunky menu UI of Masahiro Sakurai's games, so I'd head more in that direction aesthetically.
- I'd include a Video Library similar to the Game Library and the option to access either from the top menu. I imagine the Video Library having a "Play All" option that essentially plays the viewer a documentary film.
- Each individual game's menu would include "View Options" and "View Packaging" as secondary options, plus a "Read Manual" option that I'd call out because most people who think old games are bad simply don't realize that older games required players to read the manual first.
- After clicking "Play Game," the player would see a sub-menu to just play the game normally, or watch a playthrough, with or without a commentary track (if available).
- I imagine the logo on the top menu cycling through different depictions of Carmen Sandiego over the years. Or alternate, photos of the people who worked on the games.
